My name is Stanley Tee. I have been an employee since 1994 till
2012. I had worked in several industries like semiconductor, IT and Telecom industry and throughout my corporate life I realize in the end. No matter how much I contribute to the company I worked for it will not belong to me. I always questioned myself why am I working for other people and why can’t I work for myself?
Finally in Dec 2012, I was fired by my last employer, an Asian Telecom company with an unreasonable reason given to me, “You are fired as your revenue is below budget by 3%”. I knew at that time, it was not the performance rather it was a personal issue that I was fired as I could not get along with my supervisor and she wanted to get rid of me the moment she can seize that opportunity.
The truth of the matter is I am fully aware of my supervisor’s intention the moment when I realized all my contributions were taken away from me where she would gladly claim all my credits plus pushing the blame to me for things I had not done. Henceforth, I decided to make sacrifices to setup company in the retail industry. I am not a boot licker and I don’t intend to lose my integrity and character over my career so I decided to move away from employee to employer. Hoping one day, I am able to live my life according to what I want rather than let others (especially if their integrity is questionable) telling me what to do.
Regarding my initial phase of my entrepreneurship, I suffered and endured losses at the initial phase but I did not give up until I see success in the company I founded. I still remember the day I was fired, I don’t need to look desperately for another job while concentrate on my focus in building my company.
Today, I set up two companies across different industries but more importantly, I developed part of my time to help local community via old folk’s home visits, provide free quarterly haircut to elderly people. I also helped the young people especially undergrad studying in a foreign place like Hong Kong to form a community for themselves via organising a few activities.
Before I leave, allow me to share the quote from Zig Ziglar and I treasure this quote all the time.
“You have never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you”.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Life consists of many things, and it is not just about money but the purpose and meaning that you do every day before your days are over on this earth. Live a meaningful and purposeful life so that your next generation will be proud of you and that to me is leaving a legacy behind.
