How To Quit Your Job And Work From Home

By | December 25, 2015

How to quit your job and work from home? I still remember the day I left my job or put it bluntly I was fired, though there were some butterflies in my tummy at that time not knowing whether I can pull through the next few years.

I will focus my article on my preparation prior to being fired. I was very hungry and desperate to get out rat race ever since I was aware that my ex-supervisor was ill-treating me. You MUST have this passion and desire to seriously look for opportunities. What did I do?

You MUST have this passion and desire to seriously look for opportunities. What did I do?

So, what did I do?

How to quite your job and work from home - people

Talk to my friends, neighbours regarding your passion

Though 99% of the time, you will not likely get any answers but there is a 1% chance. So, I went around talking to many people about my desire to start a business as I was no longer young. After few years of talking and thinking, YES after few years not months, I finally identified someone who was introduced by a new neighbour who happened to move into the same area as me. As we chatted, he told me that there was a person who was equally hungry to come out and venture, but he did not have capital so I proposed to him that I will be the investor and he would be working partner. We agreed that in the event if the business was able to recover my initial investments, I will apportion a certain percentage to him. The rest of the story can be found in another article.

So, never give up talking to anyone who may help you in pursuing your passion.

How to quit your job - coach

Engage a coach

I recalled around the same time, I signed up for a coaching program under Richdad and on a weekly basis, I had to give an account to my coach regarding what I had done for the past week. Let me tell you, it was definitely one of stressful thing for me when you were not prepared to tell your coach what you had done as I didn’t do anything. Weeks later as I managed to get the hook of laying down my daily and weekly activities, I was able to share with my coach what I had done. I shared a short article in terms of how my coach helped me for my haircut business. Do visit the page when you are available to read. My advice would be, everyone needs a coach, but you must find the right coach who had gone through the same experience or, at least, he/she can impact more knowledge to you. Don’t waste your time if your coach keeps giving you motherhood statement. I almost hang up my haircut business and it was purely my coach’s opinion that differed from mine and end up expanding my haircut business. I owed it to my coach.

How to quit your job - WA money

Ensure you have passive incomes coming along the way. Don’t rely on ONE…..

To cut the story short, my haircut business went from initial consecutive losses for 6 months to steady profits. I gained confidence and I expanded my business from one shop to multiple shops. I knew in my mind that the profits I generated should be able to cover my monthly expenses. However, I wanted more assurance as one passive income may be too risky for me should this business collapsed. So, I continued to venture into other businesses and the second business was a lot of quicker to gain profits but it was a niche market and it required a certain amount of technical skills. So, in my mind, I was already thinking I have 2 businesses and generating a decent income. It was time for me to move on, but I did not immediately resign and I actually wanted to work for another 1 year in order to get my permanent resident in Hong Kong, but my ex-supervisor was quick enough to terminate me. Fortunately for me, I was able to continue and stayed in Hong Kong as I converted myself from employee to employer VISA. Now that you know my story in terms of how I prepared myself before I moved on.

Now that you know my story in terms of how I prepared myself before I moved on. I hope this post will help your preparation towards getting you out of job.

Work from home

Of course, there are different ways to earn money from home. Online business is one of them, but I believe it is the most practical and common these days.

The past few years had been interesting for me as I got scammed quite a number of times. There are multi-level marketing (MLM) programs that enticed me to earn money from just a few clicks away just parking a small amount of money to generate traffic. In the end, it did not sustain as my content was too generic and not unique at all. Eventually, viewers were aware and I had to kiss goodbye to my online MLM program.

Obviously, there are other online programs that may not be 100% scammed but certainly it requires a certain amount of money to invest into solo ads. Solo ads is another scheme that will send an email blast to a certain number of email addresses based on the amount you paid from a vendor that has created a list of people they have collected.  Again, this online program was not sustainable as it focussed a lot on sending lots of emails to promote products. Customers got turned away.

Eventually, from my experiences, creating a good quality content to entice viewers is inevitable and certainly it is one of the methods to keep viewers visiting your website/s regularly. I learnt from various online programs and this is my conclusion regarding online business.

Working from home has never been easier. Do visit my review page for an online program.

Hello there, I can see that we have been following one coach. The only difference between us is that I didn’t apply for one. I just get some advise or let’s say motivation from the books of Robert Kiyosaki. I have also ventured in several businesses already but unfortunately all of them failed. But still I don’t give in to failure and continue to do more business. Really nice article you have. Keep up the good work. 🙂

      Norstad,

Don’t worry. There is a saying in chinese, “success will come after your faliures”. As you learnt from your mistakes. You will get better and smarter the next time so the path to success will be closer. Stay focus and stay strong.

It was a nice story. You have made the right choice by choosing a coach to start you on your way. Sometimes, we make the mistake to think that we can make it by ourselves, but at the end, we quit without considering help from a mentor. Great subject! Very interesting.

    Hi Stanley,

I too remember my last day of working for someone else but quite unfortunate..trashed my motorbike on the way there and took me 6 years to recover!

I totally agree with you a coach or should say a mentor is a great thing as it really does motivate, inspire and keep your in right frame of mind to keep going.

it is a good read. Thanks for sharing your story and lesson learned with us. It is really important to speak your problems out to people around you.

Anyway, there are way too many MLM or online business programs that over-promise people quick money. I was scammed before and I learned from my mistakes.

Thanks for recommending a legit online program here. Keep up the good work. I will be back for sure.

I am extremely grateful for stumbling upon this post as I was not aware of what the scamming companies did to customers. I was aware that in the online marketing business, there would be scammers, but never knew exactly what that meant. I now know to be more careful of scammers with my online marketing path thanks to this.

      Jasmine,

Thank you for taking the time to read this article. Yes, unfortunately, there are many online programs who try to hook us into buying their programs but most of them will only end up paying but unable to get sustainable income. Glad it brings more light to you.

    Hi Stan,

Lots of helpful content here to help a person get an idea of how it is possible to work for yourself from home. Finding a mentor is a really powerful thing to utilize as you mention in the post. Also I think one of the biggest things someone needs to understand is that it will still be work. A lot of people who are interested in this are likely looking for a way to make some quick cash. The truth is that building a business takes time and a whole lot of hard work. Yes it is possible but you have to keep going and be prepared to be in it for months and years. Your story about working and living in Hong Kong truly is an inspiration and I am glad things are working out for you. All that being said I am an intermediate in the make money online scene and have been for a while so I am wondering how easy this would be for a newbie to get into? Someone with 0 experience.

    Thanks,

      Anthony,

Yes, I fully agree with you that building a biz takes time and it will never be overnight gain. Whether you are in online biz or real biz out there, the concept will still remain the same. Kindly take a the Can I Become Entrepreneur? which I highlighted some of the important key elements in order to ensure your path to success.

No matter what you do never compromise your core values to instant success as it will damage your reputation. Yes, the path to success will require lots of hard work and patience but it will be more fulfilling in the end.

In terms of online biz, I believe you have entrepreneur mindset and you need to explore (in case if you haven’t), seek out influencers via outreach to increase your outbound links and make your presence felt in the community. Just my 2 cents worth of advice. Similarly, I intend to engage in online biz as I benefitted from engaging a coach from my retail biz so I too need to learn from a coach who has been in online biz and gain his/her reputation.

In case if you are looking into real biz like retail or service industry, I may be able to share more in terms of my personal experience. Let me know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Hi Stanley, I like the way you shared about your complete journey towards working from home.

Working from home sounds quite romantic to many as they hate the 9 to 5 rat race, but it does take commitment and dedication to achieve.

I think one of the main things people need to realise is that they must love what they do… otherwise it’s not much better than the 9 to 5.

It was a good read. Thanks.

I think many people can relate to your experience with getting fired from your job. I guess it isn’t pleasant, but it makes you stronger and prepares you for the next bigger opportunity.

Thanks for sharing your story, and this will definitely help people just like me who also want to quit our jobs and work from the comfort of home instead.

Thank You for the inspiration 🙂
